option for files plugin: index only specific filetypes

The limit of 3000 indexed files is reasonable, but most user's home folder contains more than 3000 files. Most files in my index are without relevance, but many of the important ones are not included in the index due to the limit. So I would like to add only specific filetypes to the index, like pdf but not jpg, or only recently used files.
