Create a way of sharing resources between free graphics software

It would be helpful if there were a standard toolbar/menu for sharing work between different parts of the 'free graphics suite' (Inkscape, GIMP, Scribus etc.). If all the projects could agree, this would mean I could create a gradient in the GIMP, add it to a collection and then import it straight into my website design in Inkscape, or draw a picture in Inkscape and import it into my newsletter in Scribus - all from the same interface - within no more than 3 or 4 clicks.

I have created a few mockups at the specification url, but I don't know how relevant they are.
