Need for debugging tools

It could be quite useful to add the firebug lite script http://getfirebug.com/lite.html to presentations. Firebug is fine in firefox, but when checking things with other browsers, alert() is pretty much the only cross-platform debugging tool available. The code would only be included when doing the Install/update in Inkscape. The way this could work would be by adding a second tab named "advanced options", which would have tick boxes for things like debugging, compression (removes spaces and tabs?), ... maybe more options could be added later?
