Whiteboard
Boot architecture
* Short-term:
- GRUB compatibility (grub configuration parsing vs. GRUB U-Boot/Barebox application, U-Boot/Barebox ABI)
- zboot (zImage support)
* Long-term: UEFI
OCTO UEFI Exploration - see the requirement @ https:/
This work is in conjunction with the ARM Landing Team's RealView based UEFI work. Essentially, OCTO wants to explore, initially at least, various aspects of UEFI that are important for ARM based Servers. OCTO also wishes to act as a catalyst, getting wider UEFI support on member platforms (in a similar manner to OCTO's device tree and hard float ABI work).
- Set up a UEFI git repository based on EDK2, this includes applying the ARM specific patches etc
- Integrate UEFI with LAVA on at least one member platform
- Add support for one or more Linaro member low cost evaluation boards
- Ensure that Linaro built kernels can be booted via EUFI as well as uboot (using device tree / ATAGs), this may raise problems - that need solving along the way. In particular, look at booting LXC Server images initially. An interesting experiment would be to boot Android kernels this way.
Explore:
- Image format support - zImage, bzImage
- Partition types - GPT
- PXE support
