Replace the buggy GNOME MPlayer with another one
I am sure you have noticed how many times GNOME MPlayer will be crashed when you are trying to watch something. It is not only with the latest version (13.10) but it has been like that for many releases and I was wondering if we should really keep it for an LTS Release that suppose to be stable and LTS?
I'd suggest to replace it.
I looked at VLC and it is using more RAM than GNOME MPlayer and that is maybe one of the reasons why we still use it but then again, it is buggy and not good for a stable release!

[Andre] I suggest SMplayer... I've been using it since 12.04, had no issues so far, on 13.10. SMplayer has more features than gnome_mplayer...
[amjjawad] Maybe we should discuss that on the mailing list?
[gilir] VLC = SMPLAYER = Qt = no way
Tracking the bugs you have is more efficient that just dropping it. As we are not going to replace it so close to the LTS, let's keep it like this.
[Andre] I don't know many option for Qt, but I guess to 14.10, the most natural option is smplayer or kmplayer...
[Noskcaj]
The two major remaining options are parole (gtk3) and mplayer. Could we try and get a freeze exception to change this?
