Permanent versus Temporal Devices & Network Shares
It is necessary to separate between temporal devices & permanent devices (USB-stick versus MediaHarddrive). In the case of temporal devices (i.e., USB-stick or a DAAP share), the user might prefer to browse the device once connected rather than have the content automatically added to the music library. In the case of more permanent devices (i.e., a USB-MediaHarddr
Therefore, and because of technical difficulties to automatically and reliably differentiate between the two, we would prefer a solution where the option rely on the user, such that:
- when connecting a USB device, the user gets asked: Is this a part of your Music Library? And can choose between putting the content into the music library, or to browse the device as a temporal device from the main music menu.
All the network shares appear under Network Shares, and can be browsed the same way as music (but is scanned by the media scanner only one by one, when actually browsing it). Only such connected hard drives that the user chooses to include in his/her Music Library gets completely merged with the local collection (and automatically scanned for content each time).
Under Settings, you should also be able to easily configure this choice.
