Shorter Inventory Update Interval

AFAIK there is no normal way to set up a inventory-interval shorter than 1 hour.
The problem, there are some features it would be very nice to get a shorter update interval.
E.G. Listening on Processes.
I think interval settings like every 5 Minutes oder every 10 Minutes would be very great.
Until now this can only be done with an extra cron oder scheduled task, which is set up by a ocs plugin.
I think this is not the perfect way.
