Create a NAS storage appliance
networkBoy from slashdot suggested we build a turn-key NAS system:
"Something like the Linksys nas, but on steroids and not sucky. That allows adding drives on the fly via SATA, samba server and web UI."

Whiteboard
I think FreeNAS might be good for this.
JD: Yes FreeNAS would do this, but the point is to make a TKL appliance that does the same thing (based on Ubuntu/Debian rather than BSD as FreeNAS is).
LA: Isn't the FileServer or even the Domain Controller a NAS Appliance? It seems to be from my view. Can run part of a cloud or on an old Box and have lots of extra space and ways of access.
FreeNAS however is interesting as it provides an ISCSI connector, which in turn VMWare could use to boot Appliances from. I don't believe such is built into File Server or Domain Controller on TKL.
JD: TKL Fileserver would be the obvious basis for this sort of appliance - basically an extended Fileserver... Whether the extra functionality should just be added to Fileserver, or whether it should be an independant appliance depends on what the dev think...
