A brainstorm for the redesign of Ubuntu's sound themes.
The use of sound for event notification is a practice shared by all operating systems. A crucial aspect of how Ubuntu is perceived will be how those sounds are designed and how the sound theme engine operates. Often users find sound events annoying and immediately switch the feature off. Is this because of the sound design (pitch, amplitude, timbre), the frequency of events or some other reason. How does the visual theme relate to the sound theme ? How do current circumstances relate to how the sound is processed ?
For this session we would like to brainstorm the whole area surrounding sound-themes.

Sounds in Ubuntu
Work items:
[DX & Design] Identify key sound events: TODO
[TheMuso] Identify and design sound events for accessibility: TODO
[DX] Establish sound theme competition with the community: TODO
[DX & Design] Participate in the above mentioned competition: TODO
- Theme settings UI: we need to redesign the whole UI to allow customization/
Do not expose the ability to change all possible sound events though.
- Through the software centre third party sound themes could be made available.
Nice feature:
- Detect if the person is active on the computer and if not use the sound theme to its full extent.
