Probabilistic Input for Open Input Framework
The Carnegie-Mellon University's HCI lab is involved in on-going research into the problem of uncertainty in user input. In particular, the focus has recently been in the area of touch applications (specifically, the toolkits used to build them). Note, however, that the solutions aim to be (eventually) generally applicable to all user input scenarios, not just touch.

Dasher is a probabalistic input device already in Ubuntu, it might be possible to leverage some of that technology, or at least have shared language files to guide the probabalistic input of other keyboards.
