To make targeted enhancements to the Software Center user interface and experience. Focus areas are a general visual "makeover" (new icons, etc.), enhanced integration with Unity, targeted performance improvements, better touch-friendliness, increased stability and usability improvements.

Determine remaining performance issues to target and prioritize them: DONE
Determine the list of Synaptic features not yet implemented in Software Center (http://goo.gl/yQQ9l): DONE
Expand the Get Software item in the viewswitcher by default: DONE

Work items (oneiric-alpha-2):
Detect current screen resolution and base the default window size on that to better make use of available area: DONE
Display the package name first in the version string of the details view (per the spec): DONE
Modify dbus call from Software Center to Unity launcher per above changes and fire it at the start of the install rather than at the end: DONE

Improve startup time when installing a .deb directly (over 50% improvement and now within about 1s of gdebi startup time: DONE
Improve user feedback when installing a .deb directly (show a spinner and do not display the main category view): DONE
