Qt Ubuntu integration

Registered by David Planella

In order to consider Qt a recommended choice for Ubuntu app development, we need:

- Better integration of the Qt development tools with Ubuntu-specific processes and tools, such as packaging, bzr, Launchpad...
- Ability to access the Ubuntu platform APIs from Qt.
- Ensure the packaged Qt development tools are in shape

We'd like to discuss what needs to be done and a roadmap for this work.

Whiteboard

[rickspencer3] We absolutely must have the ability to write a complete application with only managed code. Doing this with pure javascript is ok, but being able to use Python (like PySide) is best.
[mvo] This is mostly possible today, check e.g. lp:software-center and the ./software-center-qml code there, that is qml/JS/pyside.
[TobiasHunger]You are aware that Qt Creator has support for bzr already (incl. lp: urls AFAIK)? There is also support for debian packaging (for Harmattan/Freemantle), maybe that can be adapted for the ubuntu needs. We also have a infrastructure to publish apps, but that has nothing for ubuntu yet. Feel free to drop by in #qt-creator if you have questions. http://taschenorakel.de/mathias/2011/11/01/devhelp-books-qtcreator/ might be of help, too.
