Standardizing Configurations and APIs

I've run-across a project aiming to standardize the way systems are configured which is POSIX compliant, aiming to release for LInux, BSD, Windows, etc. and is already gaining some interest: the gossip is that SUSE is even taking a peak. I suggest the developers take a peak at: http://elektra.g4ii.com/Why_Linux_Needs_to_be_Elektrified and consider it, though I might suggest waiting for version 1.0 though the .6.4 might be good to start with in the unstable builds of Ubuntu.

It would require patching programs to use it but the standardization it provides across the system could be awesome for developers and users alike! It would greaty simplify things and be a whole lot friendlier as a system. I don't think the patching would be too bad, and it doesn't all need to be finished at-once: why not do a little at a time if necessary? And if Ubuntu and Suse both were to pick it up it might greatly accelerate wider adoption if the work made it back into the code for the projects to which it could be applied.

Someone who knows a little more ought to take a look and read-through their site and see. It's intriguing.
