Install updates when installing Ubuntu
Currently when you install Ubuntu, many of the packages being installed are out of date. You are not prompted to install updates until after you've finished installation and restarted the computer. Then there may be hundreds of updates to install.
We were requested to investigate getting Ubiquity to download and install updates at the same time as you install Ubuntu. This would happen only if you had a working Internet connection during installation.

Does updating the LiveCD before install, install to disk the newer packages on cache or the inicial ones? -- BUGabundo
Installing updates before install has no effect on the install as ubiquity, the desktop CD installer, copies files from /rofs, a read-only copy of the pristine live filesystem. It works by copying these files to the target filesystem, quite unlike how debian-installer works by installing packages inside the target filesystem. -- Evan
