GIS (Geographic Information System) Data is mostly by it's nature open data but the cost of collecting it makes it an expensive commodity. It is essentailly additional data that can be overlaid on to a map to make it more useful for a particular purpose. If there was a way to get and filter data easily it would be very valuable to desktop users wanting to find information.
