Utilize ultravnc or tightvnc
Currently on dapper if you enable desktop sharing and then connect to the system using VNC, the refresh rates of the screen are very slow and inaccurate. Additionally many features present in tightvnc/ultravnc are missing from the built in gnome tool.
To actually make use of the feature a user needs to enable tightvnc/ultravnc and disable the built in engine. It would make more sense to integrate these tools from the start.

Whiteboard
Ultra VNC only runs on Windows. From the UltraVNC website:
"UltraVNC runs under Windows™ operating systems (95, 98, Me, NT4, 2000, XP, 2003...). Its embedded JavaViewer allows you to connect (and make File transfers) from a simple Web Browser on any Operating system supporting Java™ (Linux, Mac OS...) to an UltraVNC server."
Also, which features are you missing in realvnc?
From zaxx:
My apologies for not being more clear in my posting. The current remote desktop utilized from within the gnome desktop is based off the older 3.3 revision of the vnc protocol. Additionally the updates from this are very slow so there is no efficient method to use it.
This specification I entered was to suggest:
1. Upgrade the revision of the VNC spec supported (UltraVNC uses 3.6)
2. Make the desktop refresh/update speed something that is within reason (and actually usable)
I called it "ultravnc or tightvnc" since on windows those two tools implement efficient, accurate update algorithms such that the remote desktop is very responsive. Alternatively, the Linux side is inaccurate and slow.
The feature that is missing from the remote desktop is the ability to transfer clipboard data. (There may be others but that is the most common one missing)
