Gnome Windows List applet shows only icons

Current Gnome applet Windows List shows icon and text description of every program running. This is space consuming and advance user can prefer to see just icons of running programs. XFCE desktop already has this feature and I like it. Text description can be described when mouse pointer is fucused to icon; no change from current Windows List apllet.
There are two different ways how to implemement this improvement.
1) create new applet (XFCE has this)
2) add a switch to preferences of current windows list applet
