GUI for configuring mice eg for thumb buttons

Registered by Rolf Loire

As far as Ubuntu has made a progress into the userfriendly direction, it still isn't possible for the average user to set their thumb buttons on their mice in an easy way. Actually, today most mice have thumb buttons and the user will notice it immediately that these will not work without searching on google, forums and wikis for help and editing xorg.conf, then restarting X numerous times to see, if it finally works. This is not practical, therefore a GUI for mice-configuration is overdue.

My idea for this is that the user would be able to do the following in the GUI...

Step 1: The GUI asks for some basic details like mouse model and amount of buttons and weather or the mouse has a wheel.

Step 2: The user is given a graphic representing the mouse and is asked to test each button and wheel if present.

Step 3: The user can set the button mapping if necessary and test again like in step two.

Step 4: The user can save the settings and close the GUI
