Ubuntu support a lot of hardware but some users don't want to have hp printers support nor wifi support nor tablet because this is useless and waste hard disk, ram and cpu.
Build an agent that is able to determine what software is needed to support a device, install software, configure it and let user play with it. Thanks to hal.
The people from guadalinex have developed a system called "hermes" that we should use.

I don't think it's worth the complexity to save some disk space, and packages which run a daemon should be fixed to be event-driven so that they're activated only when hardware is detected. -mdz
Guadalinux developed "hermes" that does pretty much what this spec wants. Getting it in for feisty is something I would like to do. -- mvo
