xsane needs autoinstallation of sane libraries for printers and a simpiler interface
Scanning is in dire need of reshaping in Ubuntu. Scanning is almost as common as printing as most printers are now sold as a "all-in-one" printer/
Suggested that this be integrated with the new specification of printerdrake.

Gnome is developping its own scanning platform and application. See gnomescan 0.4.1 in gutsy (development is active).
Dumb-down the interface of xsane for beginners, with a second option for experts (this would be the current interface).
The current interface is intimidating and may confuse a lot of users who are used to "click and scan" type interfaces.
