An update to where we are on the Font development
Student/community collaboration
How we approach this will to a degree depend on the prioritasation of the script development. In regards to Chinese Bruno has made some contacts. Also to do some research on Universities and Institutions around the world who could be canditates to be involved.
Tool development
Bruno will draw up a wish list on font tools and some suggestions how this could be achieved. One comment was that instead of creating one massive application, Python scripts would be developed for different functions allowing a more staged and faster update of the tools. The biggest issue, however, is the user interface which currently is quite counter-intuitive. Fontforge is already fairly powerful but could do with a number of implementations, not currently available in any other tool. The main one being automatic re-assignement of glyph-IDs in GSUB and GPOS tables for complex script (positionings of diacritics) when glyphs are inserted above a script.
