make network manager part of a deault install

We should install network manager by default. more and more applications are making use of it to detect the presence of a connection, or lack thereof. I know this has been discussed before, and the issue normally was around the fact that network manager only uses dhcp, and oes not allow for static connections/ip assignments. From my experience, if you simply configure your connection in the gnome-network-settings dialog, the /etc/networking/interfaces files is changed in such a way that network manager will not attempt to configure the connection at all.

Although network manager may not be very useful on Desktops with a constant network connection, it is a great resource for laptop users. Maybe it could be integrated with the laptop-detect scripts/program or something similar, so that it is only used on laptops, if people are opposed to it on the desktop.

Regardless, I think it is an important technology (user space network configuration) that would be a step in the right direction.
