Make the guided partitioner during the install detect other OSes on the disk and list partitions by OS name.
When installing Ubuntu, the guided partitioner is very useful, however many people do not know what 'hda1' and other partition names are. It would greatly simplify the install process for new users if Ubuntu could detect other operating systems and refer to them by OS. So on a disk with one NTFS winXP partition, rather than 'resize hda1 and use free space' it would list 'resize Windows XP and use freed space'. Hopefully this feature would reduce the number of incidents where new users accidentally delete other operating systems when intending to set up dual boot.
As a somewhat more complicated and difficult feature to implement, perhaps the installer could also detect how other non-os partitions are referenced by OSes on disk. So a disk with two ntfs partitions (C: and D: on winXP) would list them as 'Windows XP C: Drive' and 'Windows XP D: Drive' in addition to their official partition names. This would also make the guided partitioner more user-friendly for those with only basic knowledge of partitioning, however I believe that it would be considerably more difficult to implement.
