MariaDB is a drop-in replacement for MySQL, incorporating new features from the community and Monty Program. Making MariaDB the default LAMP database server causes no changes to existing workflows or datasets while providing Ubuntu users with a more featureful and more reliably developed DB server for the support lifespan of Lucid.
