Enabling a shared-files-directory, accesible to all users, and having Samba default to sharing this directory when enabled.

Many users have files they want to share with other users on the same machine and with other users on a mixed enviroment network. Windows offers an easily accesible shared-documents-folder by default. Ubuntu does not have a default shared files directory.

This proposal is about having a shared-files-folder by default which all users can access. Which would be available through a shortcut in the locations menu. Samba should be configured to share the world-readable files within this directory by default, and allow restricted access to the home directories when given the correct password. Most of those who know how to set this up manually, have already done so.

Whether or not Samba should be enabled by default is not that important. Having a default, easily accessible directory for sharing files is. Enabled samba is easy to do within the desktop-configuration.
