Make Ubuntu hot-swappable for USB sticks

Making USB sticks hot-swappable will greatly contribute to user-friendliness. After I closed my file, there is really no reason that I should not be able to take my USB stick out. This is something that works better in Windows than Ubuntu and for me a great annoyance. Would be gratful for feedback.
