Share code and libraries with Abiword for faster development

It may be a good idea to share code with the AbiWord project, which has already produced a lightweight open source word processor with export and import capabilities.
The project is still active but most updates are bug-fixes rather than user interface updates. Working with the AbiWord team to create a fork with a new, modern interface would be quicker than starting from scratch. This approach can also be taken with Gnumeric, the spreadsheet app.
